In a letter to local ESIF sub-committees, Julia Sweeney, Director of European Programmes & Local Growth, acknowledges the impact of the COVID-19 crisis and how it is affecting the way in which the European Structural and Investment Funds programmes are being delivered.
The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, the Department of Work & Pensions and the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs are committed to working flexibly with project stakeholders to ensure stability is maintained in the short term and to ensure capacity is in place to support economic recovery once the current situation subsides.
As part of discussions with the European Commission about potential ways of responding to the situation and the impact on ESIF programmes, existing project activity is being reviewed, including the case for adjusting provision to meet current circumstances.
