When Sarah first came on to the Building Better Opportunities Towards Work Programme she had only recently moved into the area from Nottingham. She had wanted to be closer to the father of her 1-year-old daughter. Unfortunately, her relationship ended and she found herself as a single mum feeling isolated and alone.
She explained that she had suffered with postnatal depression and anxiety. She had become extremely self-conscious about her weight gain after the birth of her daughter which left her self-esteem at a real time low.
Sarah also discussed that she left secondary school with minimal qualifications and that she had found learning difficult in the past due to dyslexia. In her words, she believed she was “thick” so initially when discussing career paths, she felt that it would be best that she chose something more practically based.
