The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) supports rural businesses to grow and increase their competitiveness and sustainability. It aims to protect the countryside, improve the quality of life, increase diversification of the rural economy and support locally based approaches to rural development.

The D2N2 EAFRD allocation is £5.4 million.

Funding is available under the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE).

In D2N2 RDPE has 3 main investment strands:

  • A total of £1.6 million for Rural Business Development Grants to help rural businesses grow and create more jobs.
  • A total of £501,253 for Food Processing Grants to support food and drink businesses that process agricultural and horticultural products.
  • A total of £928,247 for Rural Tourism Infrastructure Grants which will help fund the costs of capital expenditure on projects that will encourage more tourists to come, to stay longer and to spend more money in rural areas.

More information on how to apply can be found here.

The deadline for Expressions of Interest to these programmes is 31st May 2018.
